How to Organize and Host a Prayer Night

Have you ever had the desire to be part of a group of people who come together to lift for a certain cause? To be less afraid of praying out loud with a group of people? If this is you and you don’t know where to find a group like this, maybe it’s because you’re meant to start one! Here are a few tips on how to do that:

1.   Brainstorm!

a.     Think through what you want your prayer group to look like.

b.     What is your vision for the night?

c.     How do you want it to be structured? Do you want to start by sharing a meal or will you begin praying right away?

d.     How often will these prayer nights happen?

e.     Where will it be hosted?

2.   Who do you want to invite?

a.   Is there a specific group of people you had in mind to pray with? Are you hoping to have a women’s prayer group? Co-ed? Young adults or all generations?

b.   Create a list of people to invite.

3.   What/Who do you want to pray for?

a.     Is there a specific topic that interests you that you’d like to get other people excited about?

              i.     Ex. Praying for Unreached People groups, for our country, for healthy marriages, for singles, for your children, etc.

4.   Hosting

a.     Will it be virtual or in-person?

b.     Will you host it at your church? In your home? Backyard?

c.     What is your goal? Are you hoping to create community or just provide a space for people to come and pray?

d.     Are you hoping to be the main host or share responsibility with someone else?

5.   Pray!

a.     Details and creating a plan are great, but the most important thing is actually doing it! Trust that the Holy Spirit will guide and direct you as you step forward in leading.

There is no perfect way to pray and no right or wrong way to create and host a prayer night. This is not an exclusive list of how or what to do, but we hope it will help guide you as you create your own prayer group!
